Buy the book
Alright, I admit it. There is a certain thrill in strolling into a bookshop to find my book on the shelves. It was a few weeks after the launch of The Physics Behind… before I even had a chance to look for it, but it was worth the wait.
My local Waterstones was the first place I looked, and there it was nestled among books by the titans of popular science writing. To one side of me was Stephen Hawking, to the other Michio Kaku, with Richard Feynman above, Roger Penrose and Brian Cox below. Such exhalted company!
Almost as much fun are the reports that drift in from around the country and the world that the thing has been spotted in the wild. I’m told by a family member who tried to buy a copy that it had sold out in WH Smith at the Metrocentre in Gateshead – although to be fair I doubt they would ever keep many copies in stock. Friends in Los Angeles, Toronto, and Sarasota also reported finding copies at various bookstores including Barnes & Noble.
Forgive me, but the idea that a centimetre or so of bookshelf in shops around the world has my name on it is quite good for the ego.
